WALKING TO THE MOON. |
||
Instrumentation: My vocals, acoustic steel, nylon, 12-string and slide guitars, harmonica and bowed psaltery. Plus: Electric guitar, bass, balalaika, synthesizer, ocarina, didgeridoo, fujara, bombard, bass-flute, hurdy-gurdy, vocal harmonies and assorted percussion.
'Singer/Songwriter Cowlan's bluesy, semi-acoustic fifth album stands out from the crowd courtesy of fine playing, a wry sense of humour and some highly original instrumentation.' (Rock'n'reel.) GB
'He has an eye for the minutiae of everyday experience, and a talent for story-telling.' (Folk on Tap.) GB
This is very much an 'acoustic' album with background 'Blues' influence, and the songs range as widely as ever. From extra-terrestrial intelligence to neo-nazis (who are of questionable intelligence and who certainly ought to be extraterrestrial); from lunar mythology to Russian air-hostesses; from embattled trees to mysterious encounters in Amsterdam. The last three songs comprise a humorous side-swipe at the Eurolunacy of the EEC, Rock-and- rolling clerics in an English cathedral, and a pedigree dog with serious personal hygiene problems!
THE MOON IN CLOUDS.
The moon in clouds remind me of her face
obscured by pillows and an eiderdown.
A rounded brow, hair softly out of place.
The moon in clouds remind me of her face
half hidden by the bed clothes, with a crown
of shadows and a strangely lunar grace.
The moon in clouds remind me of her face
obscured by pillows and an eiderdown.
